XING Mobility and Castrol are collaborating to further develop XING Mobility's immersion cooling battery technology.
XING Mobility and Castrol, a wholly owned subsidiary of BP p.l.c., are collaborating to further develop XING Mobility’s immersion cooling battery technology, utilizing Castrol’s advanced thermal management fluid to deliver unprecedented power and safety to the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market.
Since 2015, XING Mobility has continued to advance its EV battery system and powertrain technologies, setting itself apart from competitors by providing automotive-grade EV systems to commercial and industrial vehicle makers worldwide. Its breakthrough Immersio Modular Battery Pack technology directly submerges widely available lithium-ion battery cells in non-conductive cooling fluid. Castrol’s recently launched product, Castrol ON e-thermal fluid is circulated through XING Mobility’s system at a dynamic flow rate to provide superior battery thermal management that enables improved efficiency and is especially designed to meet the highly challenging specifications, conditions and safety demanded by these applications.
Immersion cooling in EVs is now widely considered to be the most effective method of cooling due to its 100% cell-to-coolant contact and improved cell temperature uniformity, which allows battery cells to reach their optimal performance levels while remaining extremely lightweight. The technology delivers market leading energy density and a high level of reliability, in addition to achieving a modular design that allows it to be installed in a large number of vehicle types.
Castrol’s advanced range of e-fluids will help bring the industry closer to achieving the key tipping points for mainstream electric vehicle adoption. This new partnership with XING Mobility will mean Castrol can benefit from XING Mobility’s adaptability and innovative spirit, while XING Mobility will benefit from Castrol’s pioneering fluid research and expertise. The two will work together to optimize fluid and hardware to improve battery system performance across the electric vehicle industry.
“Forming a strong partnership with Castrol/BP not only brings world-leading fluid expertise to XING Mobility that greatly advances our development immersion cooling, it also enables us to provide ultra-fast charging EV battery systems to the world’s leading automakers,” said Royce YC Hong, Cofounder and CEO of XING Mobility.
Rebecca Yates, VP Advanced Mobility & Industrial Products at Castrol, commented, “At Castrol we are committed to innovation and want to work with true pioneers in the field to help us succeed. We think this partnership with XING Mobility will allow us to learn from each other’s expertise in relevant areas and co-engineer exceptional market leading products that improve battery system performance and drive the electric vehicle market forward.”
