The Semtech’s LinkCharge 40 supports Qi-enabled phones while maintaining small form factor on both ends.

At CES 2017, Semtech has unveiled its latest LinkCharge 40 Series wireless charging transmitters and receivers that support applications requiring up to 40W power.

LinkCharge 40's high power system architecture uses a flexible firmware-based approach and proprietary communication protocol between the transmitter and receiver at 40W, and uses the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) or Qi standard protocol at lower power.

“The addition of this 40W, highly differentiated, ultra-high power wireless charging capability to Semtech’s LinkCharge platform makes our robust and scalable wireless charging technology available for products of all sizes and power requirements,” said Ruwanga Dassanayake, Product Line Manager for Semtech’s Power and High-Reliability Products Group. “One of the unique features that sets LinkCharge 40 apart is that its transmitter is backwards compatible, supporting Qi-enabled phones while maintaining small form factor at both ends of the solution.”

Semtech’s LinkCharge 40’s primary features:

  • 40W output power with proprietary communication protocol
  • Backward compatible with Qi transmitter up to 15W power
  • High DC-DC efficiency at 85%
  • Flexible, programmable firmware-based solution for quicker time-to-market and to accommodate the evolution of industry standards
  • 19Vout/2A at the receiver
  • Capable of supporting multiple coil configurations
  • Supports dynamic loads

“Implementations of the latest Qi specification deliver up to 15W wireless power,” said Menno Treffers, Chairman of the Wireless Power Consortium.
