Renesas has pledged support for Business for Marriage Equality (BME), a campaign for companies to show support in requesting equality in marriage laws in Japan.
Renesas Electronics Corp. has pledged support for Business for Marriage Equality (BME), a campaign for companies to show support in requesting equality in marriage laws in Japan. BME’s purpose is to create a visualization of companies that are willing to support the request to equalize marriage laws in Japan. The campaign is organized by three non-profit organizations (NPOs) operating in Japan: General incorporated association “Marriage For All Japan (MFAJ)”, NPO “Lawyers for LGBT & Allies Network (LLAN)”, and authorized NPO “Nijiiro Diversity.” Currently, 160 companies in Japan have shown support to this campaign.
June is Pride Month, a month to raise awareness of the rights and the culture of the LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning) community. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Renesas decided to pledge support to BME in order to legalize same-sex marriage.

Renesas believes in the importance of respecting the individuality of each and every employee and to create innovation through proactively incorporating diverse values and ideas. In order to achieve this, Renesas proactively promotes D&I. In April 2021, Renesas revised the Human Rights policy in the company Code of Conduct. It now states that employees should not be discriminated against based on “sexual orientation” and “sexual identity”. Following the pledge of support to BME, Renesas will continue to promote initiatives to support members of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies both inside and outside of the company, as well as enriching internal policies like benefits. Renesas also plans to improve training and education for employees to deepen the understanding of the LGBTQ+ community.
Renesas will continue to establish a work environment and organization climate where employees are comfortable to work in.
