Weltrend’s WT6615F and WT6632F USB power delivery controllers support from 3V up to 30V range without an external LDO.

Weltrend Semiconductor’s USB power delivery (PD) controller chipsets, the WT6632F and WT6615F, have passed the full set of compliance tests for USB-Type-CTM Downstream Facing Port (Source) applications certification at the USB-IF Compliance Workshop event in Silicon Valley, California.

The WT6632F and WT6615F support USB PD 3.0 specification designed for USB Type-C power source applications while WT6615F likewise supports the USB PD Programmable Power Supply (PPS) specification typically used for Sink Directed Charge of the battery in mobile devices. Additionally, these chipsets support from 3V up to 30V range without an external LDO. A programmable ROM is provided for programme code and user configuration data.

Weltrend’s USB PD controllers feature integrated USB PD baseband PHY, Type-C cable detection, shunt regulator, voltage and current monitors, control circuits of blocking MOSFET for high-voltage process. For minimal external components, the WT6632F and WT6615F ICs adopt an MCU for reduced cost and footprint. These USB PD controllers tackle USB Type-C products including power adapters for USB Type-C based notebooks, 2-in-1s, tablets and smartphones as well as USB Type-C based accessories such as car chargers, power banks, power strips, docking stations and dongles.

According to USB.org, USB Power Delivery Specification enables the maximum functionality of USB by providing more flexible power delivery along with data over a single cable. Its aim is to operate with and build on the existing USB ecosystem. And the USB-Implementers Forum's compliance programme provides quality-standard measures for USB peripherals.
