Isolated μModule transceiver serves up protection

Article By : None

The LTM2885 micromodule transceiver protects from ground-to-ground differentials with 6.5kV reinforced isolation and clearance distances.

Linear Technology's LTM2885, an isolated RS485 μModule transceiver, offers protection against ground-to-ground differentials for applications requiring isolation solutions, such as industrial, utility, medical, military and safety applications.

The LTM2885 provides 6,500VRMS reinforced isolation as well as creepage and clearance distances beyond 14mm and more than 0.2mm distance through insulation (DTI).

The LTM2885 features a ±15kV ESD-protected RS485 transceiver, operating at 20mbps or 250kbps, with uninterrupted communication for common-mode transients up to 50kV/μs. An internal EMI DC/DC converter provides an isolated 1W supply output for supporting external support components.

Selectable termination is also available to allow cables to be properly terminated and to enable adding or removing termination anywhere on the bus through software control. The LTM2885 operates on 5V, making it a self-contained module suitable for isolated RS485 serial data communications.

The LTM2885 is available for use in commercial, industrial and automotive applications. It supports operating temperature ranges from 0°C to 70°C, –40°C to 85°C, and –40°C to 105°C, respectively. The LTM2885 comes in a 22mm x 9mm x 5.16mm surface mount BGA package housed in a RoHS-compliant μModule package.

Pricing starts at $11.98 each in 1,000-piece quantities.
