GE released a series of isolated DC-DC converters designed to operate over a broad input voltage range of 9V to -36V, and a bipolar dual output, precisely regulated output voltage at 15V and -15V, 9W output power and a 0.3A output current.

The SHHN000A3CL is part of the Hammerhead series featuring total efficiency architecture technology that reduces power loss up to 50 per cent. These products are designed for extreme temperature conditions of -40°C to 85°C and are cost-effective modules for medical, military and other industrial applications.

The converter can be used as a traditional DC/DC module, powering applications such as insulated-gate bipolar transistors and other semiconductor device drive circuits, or in hybrid power architectures and industrial markets.

The support for wide input range provides increased flexibility when designing based on required input power capabilities. It also allows for sourcing consistency, equipping engineers with a single product that can fit into multiple sockets. The available configurations of the module—in through-hole and surface-mount formats—further add to the flexibility of the new converters.

Standard features of the converter include remote on/off, remote sense and output voltage adjustment. In addition, the module is fully self-protected with output over-current and over-voltage, over-temperature and input under-voltage shutdown control. Negative or positive on/off logic and surface-mount connections are available as an option.

The outputs of the device are fully isolated from the input, allowing versatile polarity configurations and grounding connections. The unit's built-in filtering for both input and output minimises the need for external filtering components and reduces the overall solution footprint.

The isolated DC-DC converter is now available in OEM quantities at $8.20.
