RAONTECH boosts resolution in HMDs with 720 chipset
RAONTECH Inc. introduces a low power micro-display solution, including a panel module and a controller designed for mobile 3D head-mounted displays (HMDs) and smart glasses.
The devices build on the company's low power and high integration technology, dodging the need for an additional battery and controller box that come with recent HD HMD devices, according to Brian Kim, CEO of RAONTECH.
The RDP501H provides HD resolution, 1280p x 720p, with a .5-inch LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) panel, which is claimed to be the industry's first micro-display panel with an integrated light source driver circuit.
The RDC100 controller is stacked with DDR SDRAM and Flash memory for video frame buffer in a small 8mm by 8mm package. It delivers 3D HD video data to two RDP501H panels, making the chipset the best combination for portable and mobile 3D HMD devices in terms of BoM and device form factor.
RAONTECH is sampling its HD micro-display chipset with HMD optic modules to selected customers.
