Software defined radio platform boosts prototyping speed
National Instruments has revealed an integrated software defined radio solution that is built on the NI LabVIEW reconfigurable I/O (RIO) architecture for rapid prototyping of multi-channel wireless communication systems.
The USRP RIO platform features a 2x2 multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) RF transceiver capable of transmitting and receiving signals from 50MHz to 6GHz with an open LabVIEW reconfigurable FPGA architecture.
The platform is designed for rapid prototyping of wireless communications systems in real-time and subsequent testing under real-world conditions. The platform incorporates a Xilinx Kintex 7 Series FPGA, and low latency PCI Express connection that run at up to 800MB/s.
It can be deployed in a range of application areas including 5G wireless communications research, active and passive radar development and exploration, communications intelligence, connected smart devices among others.
A GPS-enabled platform is also available, giving engineers the option for an integrated GPS receiver for better frequency accuracy and synchronisation.
