A*STAR I2R launches programme for ICT collaborations
A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) officially opened REACH@I2R (REsearch And Commercialisation Hub), adopting an integrated approach in bringing the diverse and relevant range of scientific capabilities to engage with local and global businesses on a long-term, strategic basis.
The various economic verticals include the energy, finance, healthcare, media and entertainment, telecommunications, and transportation sectors. As of the launch of REACH@I2R, local and international collaborators include Baidu, BYD Company, DBS Bank, McLaren Applied Technologies, National Healthcare Group, NCS Group, NEC Asia Pacific, Land Transport Authority, Ping An Insurance Group, Singapore Power Group, SingTel, ST Electronics and Topcon Corporation.
REACH@I2R encourages companies to adopt long-term collaborations with A*STAR I2R for co-developing new research and technologies.
REACH@I2R represents sustained collaboration engagements to accelerate technology capabilities building and create significant impact to the ecosystem of Singapore's ICT industry. The joint laboratories have garnered investments of more than $39.73 million from partners. "The [rights to technologies] resulting from the joint projects may be shared with the partner companies on a business needs basis," A*STAR I2R told EE Times Asia.
Currently, there are over 130 R&D personnel working under the programme across multiple technology verticals such as healthcare, intelligent speech technologies, communications, data analytics, autonomous vehicle technologies and grid networks. "The joint labs (largely based on the 19th floor of Fusionopolis, with a few housed in other floors) occupy about 1,550m2. We will be able to make other spaces available based on the requirements of our strategic partners," according to Dr. Andrew Ang, Director, I2R Industry Development Group.
