Broadcom-ShanghaiTech alliance forges Wi-Fi City
Broadcom Corporation and ShanghaiTech University have forged an alliance to establish an IoT Joint Innovation Center (JIC) and deploy a carrier grade wireless LAN network on the school's new campus under a "Wi-Fi City" program.
The JIC will be focused on developing reference designs for wearable and other connected devices, accelerating product development for the rapidly growing IoT market.
Meanwhile, the parties said that the networks will be rolled out in increasingly larger geographic areas once the pilot project in ShanghaiTech's campus is completed.
An Alliance Signing Ceremony was held at the Broadcom Asia Media Summit in Shanghai on March 19. In attendance were Broadcom CEO and President Scott McGregor and ShanghaiTech University President Chen Mingbo, among others.
