QuickLogic Corporation has launched its Always-on Context Aware Sensor Hub Catalogue CSSP for the Android 4.4 KitKat OS, which mandates that certain sensor algorithms and tasks be offloaded from the processor to enable sensor-driven use cases without compromising battery life.

The CSSP delivers always-on context awareness in the 300µW range. The context change detection is offloaded from the application processor, keeping it asleep up to the time that the sensor hub detects a change in context.

The CSSP autonomously manages and samples data from multiple sensors including those commonly used in mobile devices such as accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, pressure, ambient light and proximity. This facilitates process operation at one per cent less power than what a typical smartphone battery consumes.

The KitKat compliant CSSP supports all mandated sensor management and processing within the sensor hub, which integrates Sensor Platform's FreeMotion library including step counter, context detector, and diversity check.
