NXP debuted the integration of Google's Android 4.4 OS KitKat into its NFC Controller at the MWC.

The Android 4.4 release includes platform support for NFC-based transactions through host card emulation (HCE). This adds payment capability in smartphones, in addition to a number of applications including loyalty programs, card access, transit passes and other customised services.

NXP, on the other hand, has successfully demonstrated and validated multi-secure element (embedded SE, UICC-based SE and HCE) performance of its NFC controllers. The PN547 is MIFARE-enabled, a system that is, according to the company, used in 70 per cent of the world's contactless transport systems.

The controller features EMVCo and NFC Forum certifications, improving RF performance. It equips smaller antennas and lowers overall solution bill of materials.
