Altair, Roundbox to commercialize LTE eMBMS
Altair Semiconductor and Roundbox have teamed up to deliver an integrated solution bringing together Altair's LTE chipset and Roundbox's services platform and client software supporting evolved Multicast Broadcast Service (eMBMS). The integrated solution offers LTE service providers an effective way to lower cost per bit when delivering the same content simultaneously to multiple end users, the companies stated.
"Video broadcast and multicast are a key service in LTE carriers' future offering," said Eran Eshed, co-founder and VP of marketing and business development at Altair. "Through this partnership with Roundbox, our device customers will be able to offer the important functionality of eMBMS to their carrier customers, expanding the portfolio of services they make available to their subscribers."
In contrast to traditional online content delivery systems, LTE eMBMS is designed to work better as the popularity of the delivered online content grows. Required network capacity remains constant even as the number of receiving devices changes, allowing user experience to consistently remain at peak levels.
