Texas Instruments Inc. reveals what it claims is the smallest four-channel, low-power, low-jitter sine-to-sine
wave clock buffer. The CDC3S04 can replace up to three individual same-frequency temperature compensated crystal oscillators (TCXOs), cutting board space and BOM by nearly half.
The CDC3S04 features a 1:4 low-jitter, sine-to-sine clock buffer that replaces multiple TCXOs, saving board space and cost. It has an integrated on-chip low-dropout (LDO) regulator that eliminates the need for an internal LDO regulator, further saving board space. In addition, the clock buffer acts as a TCXO on/off switch for power savings during low-power standby, and a buffer that distributes sine-wave signals to four different peripherals while adding negligible phase-noise and minimizing EMI.
A built-in I²C interface gives customers real-time control for outputs, polarity and internal coding, and designers can accelerate time-to-market by taking advantage of TI's OMAP4xx processors.
The CDC3S04 is in volume production today, and evaluation modules will be available in late Q4 09. The CDC3S04 comes in a 1.6mm x 2mm WCSP package. It is priced at $1.80 in 1,000-unit quantities.
