Who were the winners—and losers—in the top-10 rankings for 2007?

Winners: Intel, Toshiba, Hynix

Losers: TI, Infineon, AMD, NXP

Worldwide semiconductor sales hit $273.9 billion in 2007, a 3.8-percent increase from 2006, according to final results from Gartner Inc. Vendor performances were mixed with three vendors in the top 10 achieving double-digit growth and four vendors showing declines in revenue, according to the firm.

Intel Corp. grew revenue more than twice as fast as the semiconductor market average in 2007. The company remained the world's largest chipmaker in 2007, followed in second place by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, according to the new rankings.

Toshiba Corp.'s revenue increased 20.8 percent in 2007 to $11.820 billion, gaining three places in the rankings and moving into third place, according to Gartner.

Texas Instruments Inc. was in fourth place in the rankings, but TI lost share in 2007, according to the firm.

Infineon Technologies AG was in fifth place. Gartner combined Infineon's sales with those from its DRAM spin-off, Qimonda AG. Still, Infineon lost share in 2007, according to the firm.

STMicroelectronics Inc. was in sixth, followed in order by Hynix Semiconductor Inc., Renesas Technology, AMD and NXP Semiconductors.

Hynix gained share, while AMD and NXP lost share in 2007.
