Intersil Corp. has established a new design and application center in Hangzhou, China that will develop reference designs and provide system-level application support.

The new design center is part of the company's ongoing strategy to increase its investment and footprint in the China market, and better serve the growing number of local companies that are designing products requiring Intersil's analog ICs.

"The Hangzhou applications team will provide key support for Intersil's business around the world, and help us to better serve our Chinese customers in 'real time,'" said Kent Chon, VP of Asia Pacific sales for Intersil.

The center will provide customers with a range of value-added services, along with Intersil's line of analog solutions, based on specifications including form factor, power requirements, preferred peripheral components, time to market, price and other factors.

Another primary focus of the center will be the ongoing collaboration with the Joint Power Management Laboratory that Intersil established in late 2007 at Zhejiang University, also based in Hangzhou.

"The new Application Center will partner with Zhejiang University for research in a variety of technologies, and hire graduates to work in Hangzhou and other areas in China," said Intersil China Applications Center manager, Huang Jiong. "The collaboration with Zhejiang University will help give Intersil an advantage in serving our customers. It will also give students a wealth of practical experience in solving real-world product design issues."
