Keywords:Avago  optocoupler  ACPL-M60L

Avago Technologies targets developers of Ethernet switch boxes used in industrial and office networks with its high-speed, low-power digital optocoupler. Housed in a compact SO-5 package, the 15MBd ACPL-M60L, which offers power and space savings, suits smaller network devices that require less power to operate.

The ACPL-M60L is also suitable for use in motor control applications, networking power distribution systems used in Ethernet networks, and factory automation equipment. This high-speed optocoupler can also be used in many other telecommunications applications such as System Management Buses (SMBus) in PBX systems that route calls in central office networks and wireless base stations.

With an operating voltage of 3.3V, the ACPL-M60L is optimized for low-power consumption, and is compatible with low-voltage TTL and CMOS logic to simplify system designs by eliminating the need for buffer circuits, said the company. The combination of short propagation delay and low pulse width distortion at high switching speeds makes this optocoupler suitable for high-speed Fieldbus and Controller Area Network (CAN) Bus industrial networks.

Touting higher isolation voltage and lower power consumption, the 15MBd optocoupler provides a 5mA forward current, a high isolation voltage of 3750Vrms per minute for electrical safety, and 15 kV/μs minimum common mode rejection (CMR) at 1000V common-mode voltage to ensure data integrity in electrically noisy environments. The operating temperature range is -40°C to 85°C. Approvals to the following safety standards are pending: IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-2 (Option 060 only), UL 1577, and CSA Component Acceptance Notice #5, File CA 88324.

Available in 100-unit tubes and 1,500-unit tape and reel, the ACPL-M60L digital optocoupler is priced at about $1 each in quantities of 10,000. Samples and production quantities are already available.
