Panel maker LG.Philips LCD Co. Ltd and Eastman Kodak Co. recently signed an agreement to co-develop active matrix OLED (AMOLED) technology.

An emerging technology in LCD modules, OLEDs have less power consumption, higher contrast and faster response time features than other current display technologies. AMOLEDs are used for large displays such as PC monitors and TV receivers.

LG.Philips and Kodak will both evaluate AMOLED technology for mobile displays. The two companies will also work together on creating business opportunities for the emerging technology.

"This is the first stage of a strategic alliance between the two companies. We expect to expand this to joint development of new technologies and products in the future," said Bang-Soo Lee, LG.Philips spokesman.
