Weidmuller's Ethernet solution addresses reliability
Weidmuller has developed what it claims as a highly reliable and complete industrial Ethernet solution in response to the process control and manufacturing automation industry's need to minimize unplanned downtime and associated losses in production.
Weidmuller said the cause of many unplanned shutdowns was the result of a number of problems attributed to customers' migration to new industrial communications infrastructures. In particular, migration from older communications systems such as RS485-based communications and HART systems to Ethernet-based communication networks poses a number of challenges in industrial settings and on the plant floor, said the company.
Since reliability is key for any communications network, Weidmuller developed its new industrial Ethernet solutions with high network uptime as a primary objective. The new system enable users to address network design issues including determinism, traffic management, quick recovery from network faults and integrity of the physical infrastructure.
The Ethernet product line includes most of the components needed for the design and deployment of industrial Ethernet networks. These include Ethernet switches, media and protocol converters, electrical and optical Ethernet cables (both patch and network cables), cable entry systems, connection modules, breakout cables, cable testers, Ethernet outlets and connection sockets. Also available are front plate interfaces, markers, RJ45 dust caps, couplers, plugs, installation flanges, Class 2 approved 24Vdc power supplies, Ethernet OVP modules and installation tool kits. Network design and installation guidelines are also provided.
The Ethernet products will be available next month (September 2005). List price for the unmanaged Ethernet switches starts at $150 each.
