AKM DAC supports SACD DSD, DVD-Audio formats
Asahi Kasei Microsystems Co. Ltd has announced the availability of the AK4358 8-channel DAC that is compatible with both the SACD DSD and DVD-Audio 24-bit, 192kHz sampling formats.
Based on the company's AK4357 6-channel DAC, the AK4358 provides additional features that include reduced out-of-band noise and improved anti-jitter performance from the switched capacitor DAC.
The 48-pin LQFP device also uses low power-consumption internal circuits, which provides at least 12 percent improvement in power consumption efficiency.
Other key functions include dedicated input ports for DSD, which enables switching between PCM data and DSD data at the DAC and an additional built-in LPF dedicated to DSD data allowing SACD format "Scarlet Book" filter characteristics to be easily achieved by adding a simple external analog filter.
The same output level is set for PCM data and DSD data so that digital volume and zero-detect functions work in the same way for both PCM data and DSD data. This advantage enables control of playback levels without the need to be aware of what data format is being used.
