Pre-boot biometric authentication using fingerprints
This paper discusses the first successful implementation of fingerprint authentication inside the ROM BIOS of a PC. Pre-boot fingerprint authentication offers a non-transferable security mechanism that prevents access to the computer hardware and its sensitive data by stopping the BIOS self-test process until the presence of a valid, enrolled user is confirmed using one or more fingerprints.
